WHAT

MAKES US TICK?

They call that experience of when you are so utterly absorbed by a task that you lose track of time as being in the flow or in the zone. It is a sort of intense meditation. Very few people are lucky enough to do work that frequently draws them into the flow, but after many (many, many) years, we have found our calling.

WHERE?

We call our workshop and studio in the hamlet of Stanford our Happy Space. This is where we work with wood, machines and our hands to create beautiful art that works. We’ve always been the type of people who, when there’s a choice between the easy way and the hard way, we tend to do it the hard way. Which doesn’t make business sense. But it does make lots of sense when you are making something that you love and hope other people will treasure as much as you do. Welcome to Stanford Wood Studio!

Dave has been an avid woodworker since he was a kid and has always hankered after being able to do this full-time. He introduced Di to his fascination with wood and even encouraged her to play with his tools (now that’s true love!).

Who

MIGHT APPRECIATE ONE OF OUR PIECES?

Our solid wood pieces appeal to people who love nature and the feel of using something solid and handcrafted. Our canoes are bought as much for their beauty as for the pleasure of using them. They are equally at home on a picnic paddle or in a gallery.

Writing with fountain pens has come back into fashion again. Many people who are tired of being time-deprived and deadline-driven are taking back control of their lives and spending time on creating beautifully handwritten notes, or opening their souls in their journals. Artists are enjoying visual journaling. Travellers are keeping records of their adventures in their notebooks. And even just jotting down notes during a presentation, doodling, or dashing off a shopping list with a gorgeous pen can make you feel like royalty.

One of our favourite traveller-artist-adventurers who is famous for his journaling with fountain pen is José Naranja.
