Crashing Wave III : The Whitney model

Model: The Whitney

Material: Crashing Wave III

This is a fresh batch of the Crashing Wave material. The name came from Di’s first snorkelling experience following an extended champagne breakfast. (What could go wrong?) The colours were amazing though. The photo of the pen’s cap shows a crashing wave captured in the resin. This was pure luck in the first pen we made from this batch and we cannot guarantee that any of the other blanks will have the same shape … but that is also the beauty of handcrafted pen blanks … you can never predict what the final pen will look like until the last step in the process and the hidden pattern emerges.

As shown here, we have made one pen from this batch so far (which has been sold), and there are four other pen blanks available. As can be seen from the photo of the blanks, we have used the darker end of the blank for the pen body, and some of the green for the grip section. We could also do it the opposite way round if you like, starting with the light white/green/turquoise at the barrel and with the darker purple end used for the cap.

What is difficult to capture in these photographs is the colour of the dark end – it is a deep, dark purple that has been buffed and polished to an almost mirror finish.
