Iris fountain pen in eyedropper model
Unlike the cobbler’s children who have no shoes, this pen maker’s wife gets first dibs on all the pens we make and when this one came out of the workshop, I was like Gollum in The Lord of the Rings: “Mine! Is mine. My precioussssss.” Thanks to the translucent flurries in the resin, it makes a perfect eyedropper model and I love being able to watch the ink flow back and forth inside the barrel. There was however a snag to us making these pens available for sale as eyedroppers: we had just changed over to a new resin and could not be certain that fountain pen ink would not stain the resin.
We therefore kept a piece of the pen blank inside a container with ink (Gardens of Paris that was made exclusively for us by Frara Road), and left it in there for nearly two months. When I took it out of the ink and gave it a quick rinse, I was delighted to see that there was no evidence of any staining. Phew! Hence we are delighted to offer this resin in either a standard or an eyedropper model.
If you order the eyedropper, please be aware that you will need to have some clear silicone paste/grease available to re-apply after cleaning your pen. We found this readily available in South Africa in an automotive parts store. And once you fill your pen, please check carefully for any leakage before putting your pen in your pocket, purse, etc.
