Unique fountain pen: Mulberry Coulis
This fountain pen brings to mind our family tradition of making a mulberry coulis each Christmas – steeping the fruit in sugar till the deep purple juices ooze out, boiling it and then drizzling the syrup over double-cream yoghurt or vanilla ice-cream. This is exactly what a bowl of mulberry coulis mixed with ice-cream looks like.
When we lived on a farm we had an ancient mulberry tree in the garden. It must have been at least 150 years old, with various branches that had bent to the ground and resprouted. It was so old it bore fruit outside of the usual mulberry season, and with the farm being adjacent to a wilderness area, we had to compete with baboons to get the ripe berries. Yet this old tree produced so much fruit that there was more than enough for everyone including wild birds, wild baboons, and wild children. We even had a huge old tortoise who appeared every day over the Christmas season to feast on the fallen fruit, and disappeared again for the rest of the year.
Unlike the tortoise, this pen is long, slim and delicate, and weighs next to nothing (about 20g or less than an ounce!).
